ABOUT ME

My name is Breanna Palmer I was born and raised in Junction City, Kansas which is a small community with population under 25,000 but has a wealth of diversity with the military installation nearby. This is where my interest of the world came into play. Being exposed early on in my life to different cultures from my family, and then from my community.

Once I got into my senior year of high school I became very interested in photography which then led me into the world of mass media and journalism. I was very interested in travel photography and fashion photography. I enjoyed being able to see the world through the lens of a camera, and the writings of travel journalist. This then led me into a path of storytelling. I was able to grow with this interest, at my hometown's local paper the Daily Union there I learned more on what it means to be a reporter, how stories are developed, and the intense work done before even beginning the writing process. Prior to this internship I had never carried out intense interviews or wrote in AP style and never had my name or work published in the paper.  From this experience I learned about the profession but also found a passion.

My years at Kansas State University enhanced this passion and growth in journalism. I was able to gain audio and video production skills with working on a documentary with other media students. Telling  personal stories with the struggles of food disparity in small towns and urban areas. I was able to begin my broadcasting journey in hosting a show on the campus radio Wildcat 91.9 sharing black history in addition to co-hosting an afternoon show with a fellow K-State student, and wrapping it all up with taking on the position as News Director for the 2023 -2024 school year. Kansas State not only helped me find a place in broadcasting but also in print. I was able to explore more with print being involved with the campus magazine writing stories about fashion and lifestyle, and with the newspaper stories of art and culture.

Journalism has allowed me to grow in so many spaces. I've been able to express myself in more ways than one.
